Down Syndrome: Living and Learning in the Community edited by Lynn and Donna Rosenthal. This book is an invaluable tool for parents and health care professionals. It provides advice with the aim of enabling people with Down Syndrome to better cope with problems and participate to the fullest in community life.
Communication Skills in Children with Down Syndrome: A Guide for Parents by Libby Kumin Ph.D, CCC-SLP. Provides parents with information about speech and language development from infancy through early adolescence.
Kids Explore the Gifts of Children with Special Needs (1994) by Westrodge Young Writers Workshop, John Muir Publications. This truly impressive book was written by a group of 3rd-6th graders in Colorado who profiled ten youngsters having a wide range of disabilities, including Down Syndrome.

Federation For Children With Special Needs, 95 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA 02116. This organization also publishes a newsletter and hosts workshops, lectures and support groups. They publish an excellent guide to rights of parents and children under Massachusetts and Federal law. The guide is called The Parent Manual and is available from the Federation for about $20.00.
